Rye berries are another name for rye kernels. It is closely related to wheat and barley and is a member of the wheat tribe. Rye can be rolled out like rolled oats or boiled up to be eaten whole. The rye kernel can be used process into flour for rye bread and crispbread. Rye flour contains less gluten than wheat flour and more gliadin than glutenin.
